I went to Heaven….

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:18 am by aleksan

There was a moment yesterday when I thought I had gone to Heaven. Sitting in the morning Sun, my book beside me, a mug of tea in my hand. My dog Sam asleep near me, and the horses munching grass to the accompanying sound of a breeze in the Willows. The Cuckoo was calling and song birds chirruping away. The Mayflower blooming and scenting the air, Daisies and Buttercups in the meadow, and the garden a Delight. It was both true and illusion, a present moment become a past one. But I remembered it last night in the bleak early hours – and it made me Smile.

A time to re-charge my batteries – and listen to the Masters

Mostly I am a positive person with enough energy to carry me along, taking an interest in life and others.  But every now and again I lose energy and want to go into recovery mode.  I am at these times over sensitive to negativity, bright lights and loud noises.  Time to crawl into my cave and spend time alone, or with soft music or with my book – or go for a walk with my dog in natural surroundings, trees, river and open spaces..  I find solace not in religion or football – but in poetry and the Greek and late Roman Philosophers – who have been there and, like good friends, point me to ways of dealing with stuff and give me much needed perspectives.  In particular I listen to Seneca, the Stoic- and I realise that we are not alone, and all on the same strange journey of exploration and experience – and I have come to value the Dalai Lama’s “religion” – kindness.

EU Referendum – where can we get information rather than emotional spin and propaganda?

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:55 am by aleksan

Boris Johnson compares the aims of the EU to the those of Napoleon and Hitler!  I have been doubting his sanity for sometime – he seems to be on a massive ego trip – not unlike Napoleon and Hitler!  Nigel Farage of UKIP is backing Johnson to be the next Prime Minister (certainly Cameron must go…but)  We do live in interesting but scary times and this referendum seems to be all about emotion and propaganda – from both sides.  We need some real facts – where can we get them  without relying on the Leave or Remain campaign Offices of Misinformation?

Europe – To leave or not to leave – that is the question……?

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:35 am by aleksan

The EU Referendum debate is getting nasty. Fear is the major tactic used by both sides, and it is difficult to sort out the facts from the propaganda. The major protagonists on both sides seem less than sane from time to time. I think the main point is still that we shouild remain in the EU if it can be drastically reformed and we can keep our independant judicial system and control of our borders. I have to say, from the evidence so far, this is looking increasingly unlikely. Talking to many of my friends there is a definite lean towards Brexit since the Referendum battle began in earnest. This tendency towards thinking Brexit is increased by all the calls from non British groups and governments for the UK to stay in, notable exceptions being Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin who want us to leave! There are several weeks to go and I hope it will be become easier to decide – but I expect it will get more difficult…..
